Flamenco Vivo Workshops
All the workshops will have a live band (guitar, vocals, and percussion.) These workshops are geared to give the beginner and intermediate artist a foundational understanding of Flamenco. All classes will be taught at the Ong King Art Center located at 184 N. King Street.
The cost for workshops:

“Flamenco Rhythm Workshop” with John Martin III of Cerro Negro
Sunday, February 3, noon-2pm
This workshop will focus on Flamenco Rhythm and Compas. To express our rhythm we will be using Cajon, Palmas, Vocalization, Footwork, and any instrument you bring with you. This is intended for beginners and advanced levels. The Cajon will be the basis of our discussion and execution of the various Flamenco rhythms. You are encouraged to bring your own instrument. We will cover Bulerias, Tango, Sevillanas, Rumba, as well as Solea, and Alegrias. This will be a hands/feet-on workshop.

We will discuss the compas and communication that is happening in a Flamenco group. You will be taught authentic choreography and how to express it. These workshops are also great exercise. (Bring long dress or comfortable dance clothes. Flamenco shoes or some similar shoes appropriate for stomping! )

In this workshop, hand techniques and chord progressions that define these three styles are discussed and demonstrated. This hands-on workshop promises to build on your understanding of chords, strumming styles, and picking techniques. Topics covered include: Django Jazz (comping and soloing); Bossa Nova (comping); and Flamenco (hand technique and chords). All levels are welcome, though basic guitar experience is necessary.
